On the 8th of February the Auxiliary Committee (Philoptohos), organised a lunch for the over 60s at the Mermikides Community Centre to celebrate the beginning of Lent
About fifty members of the community and their friends came to the centre and enjoyed a wonderful free meal
Members of the Philoptohos prepared dips and salads and tasty couscous. John Kaites cooked souvlaki and plenty of it. Wine and soft drinks were offered to everyone
The Philoptohos also bought a cake and wished ‘Happy Birthday’ to Polixeni Kourea and Angela Pitta who were celebrating birthdays this week. A free raffle draw followed, and the guests won about a dozen prizes donated by the Philoptohos
It was a day that community members enjoyed as they had the chance to eat, drink and talk together. Some of them expressed the opinion that lunches like this should be organised more often, even if a fee was to be charged
