Today, the annual Remembrance Day Service has taken place at the War Memorial at Trinity Square. The Mayor of Margate, Cllr Rosamund Dixon, led the Mayoral Party from the Media Centre and arrived at the Memorial, at 10.50 am. Our community was represented at the ceremony by Kostas Papadimos and Spyros Ptohopoulos. Our members joined the Mayor, Chartered Trustees and other organisations and placed a wreath at the monument, thus paying tribute to those killed in World War One and subsequent conflicts.
The Greek Orthodox community was also represented at the Westgate Remembrance ceremony. Former president of the community Adamos Marinou and his wife Kyriakoula, joined the procession of Clergy, the Chair of Westgate Town Council, County, District and Town Councillors, veterans and other organisations, and then laid a wreath at the War Memorial in Sea Road.
The Greek community feels honoured and privileged to be invited to ceremonies like these, ceremonies that strengthen the links between our people and the wider British community, and we are very thankful to the Margate Mayor’s Office and the Westgate Council for inviting us to take part.
