On the 14th of November 2017, our community was invited to an Interfaith meeting to celebrate
the Inter-Faith week. The meeting was held in the Lecture Theatre of Sessions House, Maidstone.
The purpose of the meeting was to bring together people that are interested in starting an Interfaith
Forum in Kent. The Greek Orthodox Community was represented by the Chairman of the Church committee, Mr Michael Papadopoullos. Attendees were welcomed by the Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverent Trevor Wilmott and Mike Hill, KCC Cabinet Member for Community and regulatory Services.
Those present listened to six speakers who talked about different faith forums in Kent and Kent Sacre. Among the speakers were Penny Smith-Orr (Faiths Together, Croydon), Rev Mike Walling (Canterbury & District Interfaith group), Faran Forghani (Medway Interfaith Action Group), and Nicky Younosi (Kent Sacre).
A debate followed and what became apparent was that Kent might be too large an area to organise just one Inter-Faith forum. Mike Hill, closing the meeting said that KCC would look at making a website page available for Inter-Faith activities and collect contacts across Kent.
Afterwards many people stayed behind talking to the speakers, expressing the wish that the Kent
County Council will be able to act as an umbrella for more Interfaith forums around Kent.
